Getting NeoOffice to Work on Snow Leopard

If your computer is running Snow Leopard, you may find that NeoOffice does not launch. If you click on the NeoOffice icon, it will look like the program is starting, then nothing happens. If you have the NeoOffice icon in the Dock, it will bounce a few times, then stop.

The folks at NeoOffice have posted a page on their wiki that lists Snow Leopard problems along with some solutions.

How to Fix the Problem

According to the Snow Leopard Upgrade Issues wiki page, you will need to

  1. first ensure that you’re running the latest release of either version 2.2 or 3.0, then
  2. install the patch.

Yeah, up until 10/28/09 you’ll have to pay for the patch to enable snow leopard support.

Pretty shiesty NeoOffice. You can download it for free, but to make it work you have to pay.

    Thanks for the link, Me.

I don’t see either OpenOffice or NeoOffice as good or bad, just different.

You’re welcome to get the officially-supported OS X version of OpenOffice here. I do not use it personally because I have some unusual needs, and on two points OpenOffice has rough edges that cut into my productivity. Others find it perfectly usable.

NeoOffice is primarily the private effort of a two-man team. Their model is explained in part here.

I am glad to see that we Mac users have a choice in the matter.
